I started this blog – truthfully, to make money. I wanted to try to ensure that I had a good cash flow coming in when the winter months hit. You see I moved to Colorado and live kind of off the beaten path. I am not so sure how easy it will be for me to get to town and line up new web jobs once the snowfall hits and for a web designer/software engineer meeting with clients is imperative.
So I read about blogging – tried to pick a subject matter that would have a primary focus, tried to follow the ‘rules’ and started blogging.
I haven’t written in the blog for four days now. And upon thinking about it, I realize that I haven’t written for those four days because my heart just isn’t in the subject matter – even though the site is getting hits.
I love to write. When I can spin a web of words describing a place, emotions or just the crazy thoughts that I get from time to time, I feel as if I have truly accomplished something. If I can edify someone in the process, lift up spirits or make someone think, then I have accomplished even more.
Choices. Our life is full of them. Everyday we have crossroads. The decisions that we make, the direction that we choose to go in, will affect our lives for good or bad. But more importantly, our decisions affect the lives of those people around us. We can either reflect the good that life has to offer and be a shining example or we can make choices that dim the light. Most of us kind of fall the middle, making good and bad decisions as we grow.
Okay, I know it seems like I am rambling. But I really have a point to make here. My decision to write about offbeat news was not one of the wisest decisions I have ever made. I cannot glorify these stories. And that is exactly what I would be doing if I continued to perpetuate them. Most of these offbeat stories are about stupid crooks, parents who do not care enough about their children or themselves to be parents, children who abuse their parents, etc …. Retelling these stories just dims the light.
So. I am going to change the direction of this blog. I am going to write. My writings may take you through the majestic mountains of Colorado. I may have a rambling moment that leads you to think about decisions you are making, or I may tell you about a person I have met who has brightened the world with their light. This blog will definitely break the rules for success.
Whatever I write about, I will be spinning a web as strong as I know how to. Hopefully your imagination, curiosity and soul will be captured within that web for a few minutes at the OddPapers.com – Ramblings Of An Odd Software Engineer.
