Yard Art or Junk?

An article in today’s news jumped out at me only because it touched on a subject I had just been exposed to for the first time a few years ago. Home Owners Associations and their rules and regulations. Here is the article.

I read this article and found myself feeling sorry for Dwight DeGoli. It sounded as if he were building his retirement dream only to have it compromised by a home owners association. Who can determine what is art? Personally, I think I would have been more offended by the semi-nude statues which were also mentioned in the article, others may have been upset by the multitude of cars parked in the driveway.

Okay! I can hear the arguments already. When you move into a home that is controlled by a home owners association, you know what you are getting into and should abide by the rules. Agreed!

But what happens if the home owners association is formed after you move in the area? I have heard of this happening to several people. I do not know if this was the case with Dwight DeGoli but I guess it does not really matter as he has moved on - and taken his palm trees with him.

So, where did I live that left me unexposed to home owners associations? To the same place that Mr. DeGoli just moved to — Oklahoma.

What are your thoughts about home owners associations?
